Bruno the Black Bear
Bruno was born on the banks of Scotts Run on February 2nd, 2022. Bruno and his mom became instant celebrities featured in The Washington Post when they roamed the woods that run from Scotts Crossing Road down to the Potomac River. Bruno learned that all the different passageways under the roads, through culverts and along streambeds that allowed him to find berries and fish in the spring and summer, acorns in the fall, and come winter, a quiet cave in which to hibernate.
In the spring of 2023, Bruno heard about the new baseball park being built at Capital One and - being a huge Chicago Cubs fan - had to come investigate. Bruno and his mother made quite a stir when they showed up and watched the construction from beyond the left field fence. Many of the folks in this area had never seen a black bear before. When Capital One Park construction was finished, Bruno roamed over to the management office and inquired about job openings. They were so happy to see Bruno again, and offered him the important job of Capital One Park Caretake. Bruno loves to make people smile and is proud of his hometown. Most days you can find him sitting at the entrance to the park welcoming visitors and taking pictures with all the kids. Some days he even walks around the stands or visits the baseball field with the plays. Maybe today will be one of those days... |
