About the Potomac League
The Potomac League was originally formed in the summer of 2020, when COVID-19 shut down options for college level baseball players to play during the summer. Coaches Rob Hahne, Scott Rowland, and Pudge Gjormand decided to put together a local-to-DC league that did not involve housing out-of-the-area players. That league, the Northern Virginia College League (NVCL) served over 160 players that year with games played at several Northern Virginia High Schools. The NVCL was so popular that the League leaders were asked to run it again in 2021.
Before the 2022 summer season, league leadership was approached by Barry Mark from Capital One Center, and asked if the NVCL would be interested in permanently moving play to a new baseball stadium being built by Capital One Center in Tysons. The new Capital One Park wouldn't open for play until 2023, but Capital One generously began sponsoring the league during the 2022 season. From that first meeting with Capital One Center in 2022, The Potomac League was born, and an amazing new opportunity was provided for DC-area players to practice and play a college summer season on a state-of-the-art, NCAA regulation field, with minor league baseball type events and amenities.
Commissioner Rob Hahne - "The partnership between Capital One Center and the Potomac League is a model for how corporate America can support local sports, while also providing an amazing destination and fan experience in a vibrant urban environment"
