Following a local high school and college career that ended at George Mason University, Billy Emerson played professional baseball from 1994-95. He began coaching shortly after his playing days ended and is now the Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director at St. Paul VI Catholic High School, where he has worked for the last 22 years. In 15 full seasons as head baseball coach at Paul VI, his teams have averaged 20.6 wins per year while collecting 5 conference titles, 4 state championships, and 7 national rankings. He is PVI's all-time wins leader with 315, and has 336 wins overall as a varsity head coach (through 2023). Emerson has been named "Coach of the Year" many times including “All-Met Coach of the Year” by The Washington Post, and was 1 of 8 finalists for Baseball America’s “National Coach of the Year.” He was inducted into the Paul VI Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023. In 3 decades of coaching, Emerson has helped guide hundreds of players to college and pro baseball. He has 10 years of collegiate coaching experience in both the Clark Griffith League and the Potomac League. Emerson also previously worked part-time in scouting and operations for the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, and Washington Nationals. Coach Emerson has been married to Lisa since 1995 and the couple has 3 children. The Red Foxes team name and colors are a tribute to Emerson’s late parents.
